the grape

Tempranillo (pronounced  tem-pra-NEE-o) is native to Spain with a history going back to the 9th century.  Although not as well-known in the US, by acreage it is the most planted variety in Spain and the fourth most planted in the world!  The name "Tempranillo" means “early one”, as budbreak and harvest are both earlier than other varietals.  Our harvest season kicks off in late July or early August when Tempranillo rolls in. It has difficulty surviving the cold winters of Central or Northern Oklahoma, but Tempranillo has found a foothold in Southern Oklahoma.
